Governor Crist (FL) signs paper trail, early primary bill

The Palm Beach Sentinel reports that Governor Charlie Crist has signed a bill which mandates paper trails for voting in Florida, essentially eliminating all electronic voting, and moves the state’s presidential primary to January 29th.

“Florida,” the paper states, “has by far the largest population of any of the early voting states set for January and is the most expensive in which to campaign…”

Ths is an accurate but somewhat misleading claim–California’s primary is just a week later, and they have more voters (and are more expensive) than Florida. The “other” January primary states are Iowa, South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Nevada, not known as high population, high cost states.
