Election Reform to Be Delayed

An article in the New York Times reports that overhauling voting systems will be delayed until 2012. The general sense is that there just isn’t enough time to implement the necessary changes in time for the primaries of 2008. The House plans for a compromise however: to add tiny cash-register-style printers to those touch-screen machines that don’t have a paper trail for ’08 and ’10 elections, thus giving manufacturers time to develop suitable technology for the 2012 elections season.
