Early voting records being "shattered" in Texas

Here’s a report from Texas, “Turnout high on first day of early voting.” Note some of the details:

In Bastrop County, election officials said the one-day early voting total record of 700 voters was shattered by 2 p.m. The 435 ballots cast Monday in Lockhart broke the previous record for the first day of early voting, Caldwell County officials said. In Hays County, elections administrator Joyce Cowan reported more than double the previous high for the number of ballots cast at San Marcos precincts on the first day of early voting.

Williamson County Elections Administrator Rick Barron said he expected a turnout Monday of about 7,000 voters by the time polls closed at 7 p.m. Final numbers were not available Monday night.

In Travis County, more than 24,000 people voted Monday. By comparison, 16,139 people voted on the first day of early voting in 2004, the previous record, spokeswoman Mary Fero said.
