At this point, there are additional details emerging regarding the reports of voting problems in yesterday’s UK election. These problems seem to primarily regard long lines and people being possibly turned away from polling places because of the lines; a lack of balloting materials in some places; and simply a higher turnout than election officials expected. And there are now indications of possible legal challenges because of these problems.
Here are a few media reports that provide additional details:
- “Q&A: Election 2010 voting problems”
- “UK Voters Turn Out, and Some Are Turned Away”
- “Legal challenges to polling stations could result in byelections”
Again, it seems that problems of election administration can happen anywhere.
