What happened in the UK election?

At this point, there are additional details emerging regarding the reports of voting problems in yesterday’s UK election. These problems seem to primarily regard long lines and people being possibly turned away from polling places because of the lines; a lack of balloting materials in some places; and simply a higher turnout than election officials expected. And there are now indications of possible legal challenges because of these problems.
